Frequently Asked Questions

HOW CAN I JOIN PACK 38?
In August, we provide information about how to join Pack 38 to boys at Desoto Trail and Roberts Elementary.  We hold an open house early September and drop-in's are always welcome.  During the summer, we conduct a "Summer Fun Events" for all interested boys and their families.  Look in our calendar for upcoming events.  We encourage any boy and his family to drop in any Thursday to meet our Pack, or drop us an email at gopack38@gmail.com.

WHAT ARE PACK MEETINGS LIKE?
Most pack meetings include songs, skits, advancements, adult recognition, the Cubmaster's message and other activities. All Cub Scouts and at least one parent are expected to attend. Other family members are welcome.

WHEN AND WHERE ARE PACK MEETINGS HELD?
Pack meetings are held monthly. Most meetings are held on the second or third Thursday of the month. Pack 38 meets at Fellowship Presbyterian Church, 3158 Shamrock Street South, Tallahassee, FL 32309. The Calendar provides exact dates, places and times of all pack meetings.

WHERE CAN I GET MORE INFORMATION?
Contact one of the Pack Leaders, talk to a friend or neighbor who has a son in Cub Scouts, call the Suwannee River Area Council office (850-576-4146 ).  If you need to find the nearest Scout Unit you can go to beascout.org and find all the Packs, Troops and Crews near you.

WHAT IS A DEN?
A den is a small group of boys (ideally 6-8) of the same grade level. Each den meets on a weekly basis to work on achievements and other activities. The den is led by adult Den Leaders and Assistant Den Leaders, who are responsible for planning and conducting each den meeting.

WHAT IS A CHARTERED ORGANIZATION?
A Chartered Organization is the sponsoring organization for a Cub Scout pack, usually a church, PTA, homeowners' association or other community group. The primary responsibilities of the Chartered Organization are to select the leadership of the pack and provide a meeting place. Each year, the pack must renew its Charter with its local council. The Chartered Organization must approve the rechartering application in order for the Charter to be renewed.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU GO CAMPING?
Pack 38 plans at least 2 family camping trips each year.  Webelos also plan camp outs and we encourage our scouts to attend the many council camping events throughout the year.

WHAT DO I NEED TO GO CAMPING?
You don't need much more than what you take for a weekend getaway to start camping with the pack.  A family tent and a way to store food is all the extra equipment you'll need.  The pack provides one meal Saturday evening.  Other items, like sleeping bags and pads, stove, chairs can be purchased later as you decided how much camping gear you want.  If you don't have any equipment don't let that stop you.  Many families have extra equipment you can borrow.  All you have to do is ask.
